Microsoft "Geneva" Framework Runtime, developed by Microsoft Corporation, is the runtime component of Microsoft’s claims-based identity platform, later released as Windows Identity Foundation (WIF). It enables .NET applications to externalize authentication and authorization to trusted identity providers and Security Token Services (STS), and to consume user identity as claims.

With the runtime installed, ASP.NET and WCF applications can:

  • Integrate with providers such as Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) and other standards-compliant STS solutions
  • Implement single sign-on and federation across organizational boundaries
  • Validate security tokens, perform claims transformation, and enforce claims-based authorization
  • Use industry-standard protocols such as WS-Federation and WS-Trust, and token formats such as SAML

Designed for Windows and tightly integrated with the .NET Framework, the "Geneva" Framework Runtime reduces custom security code and simplifies building interoperable, secure, identity-aware applications.

Microsoft "Geneva" Framework Runtime is developed by Microsoft. The most popular version of this product among our users is 1.0.
